Hiking the Elk Trail Part 1

Hiking the Elk Trail Part 1

I was able to hike a short section of the Elk Trail this morning. It is beautiful weather and brilliant leaves right now. The normal presence of squirrels and chipmunks and their chatter was heard along the way as well as woodpeckers and Blue Jays. I was able to make a loop out of the hike, which I always like to do so I don’t need to retrace my steps.

The Elk Trail begins at Bear Hollow. I went up the Elk Trail from the trailhead off of Dents Run Rd and down McDonald Draft to return to Dents Run Rd. The drawback of this loop was over half of it was hiking on a gated dirt road but it had no traffic. I hiked a mile back to the parking area on the gravel Dents Run Rd which has minimal traffic. I saw one set of elk tracks and a few deer tracks. The sun came out of the end of the hike and just added more brilliance to God’s creation. The hike was 4.5 miles long.
